Crewkerne, England — November 3, 2026 — SHIELD Sights proudly celebrates its 40th anniversary, marking four decades of British engineering, innovation, and contributions to the evolution of modern red dot optics.

Founded on November 3, 1986, SHIELD Sights has grown from its roots in competitive shooting into an internationally recognized manufacturer of compact red dot optics. Many of the company’s early designs were marketed under familiar names, including the Firepoint, Tasco Optima, Trijicon RedDot, and JPoint, helping establish the foundation for today’s pistol-mounted optics.

Among SHIELD’s most significant contributions is the development of its compact optic RMSc mounting footprint, now widely adopted by leading handgun manufacturers and competing optics brands. This lasting influence on modern optics-ready handgun design reflects the company’s pioneering role in the industry.

“SHIELD has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I’ve had the privilege of growing up alongside this company and watching it evolve into a brand recognized by shooters around the world,” said James White, CEO of SHIELD Sights. “What makes me most proud isn’t just the technology we’ve developed, but the people who made it possible. Forty years is an incredible milestone, and our commitment to innovation is just as strong today as it was when this journey began.”
Today, SHIELD Sights continues to design, manufacture, and assemble its optics in the United Kingdom from its modern facility in Crewkerne, England. As the company enters its fifth decade, it remains committed to British manufacturing, advancing compact optic technology, and supporting the shooters and industry partners who have been part of its journey.

YEARS OF SHIELD SIGHTS – A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM OUR MANAGING DIRECTOR
As SHIELD Sights celebrates 40 years in business, spanning two generations of our family, I can honestly say that I am incredibly proud to be at the helm of a company that remains as ambitious, innovative and future focused today as it was when it began.
I was just six years old when my father, our founder Jeremy White, established SHIELD Sights. Driven by his vision, ambition and passion for shooting, he built a business that would go on to deliver some of the most significant advances in our industry.
Perhaps none more significant than the introduction of the world’s first mini red dot sight in 1996 – a milestone that also celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
That single innovation helped change the face of pistol optics. It also established the foundations for what would become the industry’s first widely adopted red dot footprint for pistols, now recognised around the world as the RMSc footprint.
SHIELD has always been a company that looks beyond what the market currently offers and recognises opportunities others haven’t yet seen. The development of the original RMSc is a perfect example. We recognised the potential for red dot technology on compact pistols long before many OEM manufacturers had considered it.
By creating an optic specifically designed around the narrow slides of compact pistols, we helped open an entirely new market. More importantly, we challenged conventional thinking about handgun accuracy. The misconception that a shorter barrel necessarily meant reduced accuracy was something we wanted to address. We understood that a shorter sight radius was a significant contributing factor, and that fitting a slide mounted red dot could effectively transform the sighting system, providing a far greater sighting reference and helping shooters achieve greater speed and precision.
With Jeremy’s extensive experience in competitive shooting, alongside his distinguished history in training UK Special Forces and Police personnel, SHIELD has always been driven by a practical understanding of what shooters and professional users actually need. We both take enormous pride in providing these users with products and training that help them perform at their very best.
Over the years, we have continued to invest in our people, technology and facilities, evolving into a state of the art manufacturer within the global red dot sight marketplace.
It is an enormous honour to have led the business since 2014 and to have taken our family company into its next era. With my own background in competitive shooting, and having quite literally grown up in this industry, I understand the importance of staying true to the principles on which SHIELD was founded.
We continue to innovate, challenge convention and develop new solutions, but we have never lost sight of one fundamental belief: keep things simple. In shooting, where fractions of a second matter, products need to be intuitive, dependable and ready to perform when it counts. Complexity for complexity’s sake has never been part of our philosophy.
Our heritage has also allowed us to build some incredible friendships, relationships and partnerships with many of the industry’s biggest names. I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together and grateful for the opportunities to collaborate, innovate and help move our industry forward.
Looking ahead, my ambition is simple. To continue developing products that break boundaries, improve performance and make users better, faster and more accurate shooters.
I am fortunate to have an incredible, home grown team around me. Their knowledge, dedication and passion make it possible for us to conceptualise, engineer, design and manufacture world class products right here in the United Kingdom. That is something we are all immensely proud of and something we remain committed to protecting.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been part of the SHIELD journey over the last 40 years. Our friends, shooters, customers, distributors, partners, suppliers and everyone who has believed in what we do. Your support, loyalty and trust have helped make this journey possible, and we genuinely couldn’t have done it without you.
Finally, as I reflect on the last four decades, I find myself looking forward to the next twenty years. My hope is that I can one day pass the torch to one of my boys, just as my father did to me, and that they will have the opportunity to write their own chapter in this family’s story as we celebrate 60 years of SHIELD Sights.
Forty years behind us. An exciting future ahead.
TO THE FUTURE.
